One day Rabbi Akiva approached Rabbi Tarfon, who was very wealthy and asked him if he wanted to invest in purchasing a city.
Rabbi Tarfon said yes and gave Rabbi Akiva four thousand golden coins. Rabbi Akiva distributed these coins among the poor people. Some time later he asked to see his investment. Rabbi Akiva showed him a Beit Hamidrash, a study hall, where children were learning Torah, through Rabbi Tarfon's investment. The children were reading Tehilim, until they came to the posuk that one should spread his money to the poor, and the reward will remain for ever. Rabbi Akiva said this is the city I purchased.
Rabbi Tarfon kissed him on his head and exclaimed to Rabbi Akiva, you are my master in wisdom, and he gave to Rabbi Akiva more money for charity investments.
Dear friends, when you invest your money in helping G-d's children you are guaranteed a successful return on your money, plus nachas, simchas, and eternal bliss in the world of truth, olom haba, the world to come.
This story is from Tractate Kalah.
The Talmud says: HaShem guarantees that the person who gives ten percent of his profits to tzedaka will become wealthy. HaShem says you can test him if this deal works! You can ask many successful people who give tzedaka, and they will confirm that they were never diminished from giving their share of tzedaka.
This is the secret to becoming wealthy. Most people think they must be rich before giving big money, that is wrong. The more you will give, the more G-d will return to you.
